Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) has published a report on parents and children using RESPs to save for their post secondary education called the “Formative Evaluation of the Additional Canada Education Savings Grant and Canada Learning Bond“.
In this report there are some horrible statistics about the uptake of the Canada Educations Savings Grant (CESG) and the Canada Learning Bond (CLB). Parents are leaving millions of dollars of free grant money on the table when it comes to saving for their children’s education.
This is literally millions of dollars in free money that the Government of Canada wants to give to parents for their children’s education… and less than 1/3 are taking it!! The Government of Canada is practically begging people to take this money and nobody is doing it. This month, they will send this letter and have just launched this video to try and reach more parents.
Who Can Receive This Free Grant Money?
CESG Grant Eligibility
If you have a child 15 years old or less you are eligible. There is up to $7,200 of CESG grant money available for every child in Canada.
CLB Grant Eligibility
If your child is born in 2004 or later and you receive the National Child Benefit Supplement you are eligible to receive the CLB grant. There is up to $2,000 of CLB grant money available for every qualifying child in Canada.
BONUS
** If you are receiving the National Child Benefit Supplement I can show you how to make an additional 20%-30% of guaranteed extra money each month by combining it with the CESG grant.
You simply can not afford to leave this free grant money on the table when the Government of Canada is trying so hard to give it to you for your kids to go to school.
How To Receive This Free Government Money?
To start receiving this free government grant money for your children is very easy and takes less than 2 minutes. If you are in the Vancouver area I can meet at your home or work or coffee shop and get you set up. If you are somewhere else in BC, contact me and I can help you get set up by phone.
- Simply “Schedule an Appointment” on the right side of this page or contact me and we can set up a convenient time.

Mike Holman from the Money Smarts blog has written a similar article about the CLB grant and how few parents are aware of this free money available for their kids to go to school.

I remember somebody telling me about this when my son was born but I didn’t do anything about it. He is 5 now can I still get the grant or is it too late? Can I get the money for the years I missed?

This is unbelievable. I am sending my kids to university right now. One is almost graduating and the other just started in September. Nobody ever told me about these grants for school. I would have set up both my kids right away with this.

Hi Sharon,
That’s great that your children are going to university. I’m really sorry that you didn’t find out about the benefits of using an RESP to save for school and get government grants until it was too late.
As you can read in the article, a lot of parents are like you and don’t ever receive the school grants for their kids. We hope to change that and make sure every child has an RESP and is receiving the grants that they are eligible to receive.
You can help other parents get RESPs for their kids by sharing this article with them. Just click the “Share” link above. Thanks Sharon.

I found this posting through my friend’s Facebook account. I had no idea that these school grants were available. I’ve been pestered a few times at home about setting up an RESP and usually avoid it because the person on the phone sounds too scammy.
No one has every told me about getting free grant money for an RESP. Could you email me with more details please.
